Thousands of compassionate people gather to raise funds and change hearts for farm animals through the Walk for Farm Animals, a series of non-competitive walking events held each year in cities across the United States and Canada. Others participate virtually through our “Sleep In for Farm Animals.” Walkers raise vital funds for Farm Sanctuary’s life-saving work and promote kindness toward animals. The Walk for Farm Animals is a positive way to speak out on behalf of animals who cannot speak for themselves and make a real difference in their lives.
The Walk for Farm Animals has been part of Farm Sanctuary since its beginning. In 1986, our sanctuary in Watkins Glen didn’t yet exist, but we did have a small group of dedicated volunteers who helped us establish the first Walk for Farm Animals in support of our mission to stop animal abuse and suffering. Those first efforts were modest by today’s standards, but they helped fund the down payment for what was to become our first official shelter and national headquarters.
From those humble beginnings, the Walks have continued to be a vital part of our fundraising and outreach efforts, and they keep growing as more people learn about farm animal issues and want to help. The funds raised by the Walks support our work to rescue farm animals, the urgent care and lifelong refuge we provide, and our education and advocacy efforts for farm animals everywhere.
