So we have had Waste Management at our business for the last 12 years. In the past few years service has been getting worse with an average of 6 missed pick ups per year. We generate 2 dumpsters full of trash each week and are a secure facility so it is imperative that our trash is picked up on the scheduled day. We are also a non profit childcare center and the trash that is generated NEEDS picked up. So each time that the trash truck is not there by 4pm we call and try to make sure ...that the truck is still coming. According to Waste Management they are SUPPOSED to call us when service is to change. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN CALLED WHEN SERVICE IS GOING TO BE MISSED! On several occasions the excuse was a broken down truck and could they come on Saturday which we are not open. Then they ask if we could just leave the gates of our 8' fenced secure facility open for them to come on Saturday? I think not. Plus the fact that the diapers and food waste are rotting for the whole neighborhood to smell. Thanks WM! One other time is was explained to me that the driver had met his time quota that week and would not be out until the next business day. The last time 2 weeks ago they missed us I called and the dispatch said that the driver had returned and that our dumpster was blocked due to construction. There was road construction beyond us that block a street at an elementary school but in no way affected any of our staff or customers from reaching us. They said it was a fill in driver. When I demanded that they get out the same day when I called @ 3:30 in the afternoon they said impossible. I finally spoke to the dispatch manager and he was very irritated that I demanded they complete their service as per scheduled and he angrily stated that he would have a truck out that day before our closing @ 6pm if he had to get in a truck himself. So customer service is an extremely weak point for WM. Plus their contract has boiler plate lingo on the back in very small print that locks you in for an additional 3 year contract known as automatic renewal. This is automatic when signing the first contract for service with them. They also have the right to raise rates and give you poor service but you cannot cancel. IF YOU ARE A COMMERCIAL CUSTOMER DO NOT SIGN UP FOR SERVICE UNLESS YOU NEGOTIATE A MONTH TO MONTH AND NO AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO FIND A LOCAL SMALLER BETTER SERVICE PROVIDER AND NOT GIVE THE BUSINESS TO THE GLOBAL GIANT. If you need consistently on time and schedule DO NOT USE WASTE MANAGEMENT!
