Steve Masterson

People who work with Steve Masterson often describe him as a consummate driven professional. With that focus, every day Steve provides his internal and external clients and business partners with outstanding customer service and creative solutions.

During his 15 years of experience leading Waste Management Inc. Steve was a turnaround specialist, taking poorly operating units into productive, healthy & profitable businesses. As a MSA Director, he was responsible for 13 profit centers and 2, 000+ employees.

Steve found that the environmental business demanded service orientated, operationally agile, cost efficient and environmentally friendly ways to manage waste. With that in mind, Steve & Brian Simmons launched Waste Masters Solutions in 2009 to meet that need. As President & CEO of the New Castle, Delaware based company, he and Brian have successfully led Waste Masters Solutions to become Delaware’s largest privately owned commercial/industrial environmental solutions company.

A retired Non-Commissioned Officer, Steve proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and is currently and Honorary Commander of the Delaware National Guard. Prior to launching Waste Masters, Steve held senior leadership positions at Loomis Fargo & Co., and USA Waste. He attended Texas A&M University and majored in business and psychology. Married to his wife Cathy for over 25 years, they have four kids living in Delaware. An avid outdoorsman, Steve enjoys hunting and fishing whenever possible. Steve sits on several charitable boards including Big Brothers and Sisters, Brandywine Ducks Unlimited and USO of Delaware. A native of Texas, Steve has become part of the Delaware family as an Entrepreneur & Philanthropist.

As co-founder of Waste Masters Solutions, Brian Simmons brings decades of experience in the waste and recycling industry to the team. The Delaware native began his career by working in his family’s recycling and waste services business – White Line in Georgetown. As he moved on to study Business at the University of Delaware, Brian started working for Harvey & Harvey in order to further his hands on education in the waste industry. After college, he returned to the family business and in turn ended up working for Waste Management, Inc. During his tenure at Waste Management, Inc., Brian served in a number of different capacities, ultimately directing operations in New Jersey. In 1995, Brian’s entrepreneurship ultimately took over and he started his own company – Bestrans. Bestrans is a full service transportation company which continues to serve the Mid-Atlantic region and was used as the base from which Waste Masters Solutions was launched in 2009. Brian joined with his long-time friend and business associate, Steve Masterson, to establish an organization to meet area businesses’ demand for more efficient and environmentally friendly ways to manage their waste.

Brian and his wife (Tracey) of 17 years reside in North East, Maryland. When he is not thinking trash, Brian is an avid outdoorsman who holds his Captain’s license and thoroughly enjoys fishing, boating, hunting and many other outdoor activities.
