Waste Management's curbside recycling program is a result of the environmental commitment that we share with our customers. We are the largest provider of recycling services in Utah, as well as a national leader in curb-side recycling, with over 600 programs serving over 5.2 million American house-holds.
Curbside recycling is the most convenient method for our residential customers to return materials to commerce. This activity does not occur without cost. A second truck and crew collects specific materials from the homes of our recycling customers. The recycled materials are handled repeatedly and transported before they are ultimately used for re-manufacture. This combination of activities increases the cost of re-use and, in some cases, results in higher prices for items that have recycled content.
The materials included in our curb-side recycling program are chosen for their ability to be returned to commerce in a method that is economically viable to re-manufacturers. We encourage you to make your purchasing decisions with this in mind.
Where do the recyclables go?
As part of Waste Management's nationwide Recycle America program, your recyclables are collected, sorted and baled. They are then shipped by rail and truck to various recycling mills within the U.S. and overseas. Your recyclables are then remanufactured into new products.
When are the recyclables picked up?
Recycling pick-ups are made every other week on the same day as your trash collection. If your recycling pick-up day falls on a holiday, revise the schedule as you would for your trash pick-ups. As is required for your trash service, recyclables are to be put out by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled pick-up day. We are unable to provide alley service for recycling.
