Waste Management Breaks

Garbage TruckSan Leandro has two distinct service areas for refuse and recycling services. The following service providers serve
these areas:

NOTE: State and Local Recycling Requirements
As of July 1, 2015, all businesses and multi-family properties are required to sort their recyclables from their trash. Businesses must subscribe to recycling services for basic recyclables such as mixed paper, newspaper, cardboard, glass containers, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles.

Requirements to collect food scraps and compostable paper separately from garbage will become effective July 1, 2016.

In 2012, Governor Brown signed AB 341 (Chesbro) into law, which included a requirement for larger businesses (four cubic yards of garbage service per week and above) to obtain recycling service. The Mandatory Recycling Ordinance 2012-01, adopted by Alameda County, builds on the State’s requirements by specifying which materials need to be recycled and by requiring that an adequate level of recycling service be obtained. According to the county ordinance, businesses are required to recycle even if they self-haul waste materials to a landfill or transfer station.

Call your service provider to arrange for recycling collection services.
