Waste Management - Junk

Birmingham's trash brochure offers detailed information about trash guidelines. Trash is picked up in Birmingham on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Use the map below to determine your trash day. For questions concerning trash collection, call Car Trucking at 586.791.8480.

Bulky Item Pickup
Did you know we have year-round FREE Bulky Item Pickup! That’s right - simply place your large items at the curb on your trash pickup day. The city collects mattresses, furniture, appliances, doors, windows, and carpeting (rolled no longer than 4' long and tied). We do not accept logs, stumps, or construction debris for bulky item pick up. Please keep in mind that nothing can be more than eight feet long or wide with the exception of carpet being less than 4'.

Have Your Trash Out Early
Attention early birds! Trash collection begins promptly at 7:00 a.m., so be sure to have your trash/recyclables/yard waste at the curb on time. (You may place your rubbish at the curb 12 hours prior to your pickup. For example, if your trash day is Wednesday, you may place your rubbish at the curb no earlier than 7 pm on Tuesday evening). If you forget to put your trash out on time you will need to wait until the following week.

Approved Containers
Refuse must be in approved containers: 20-32 gallon garbage cans, bushel baskets, or plastic bags at least 2 mils thick (trash only, no yard waste) . You may set out five containers per week of construction materials (i.e. lumber (less than 4' in length), tile, linoleum, etc. no concrete or brick). All refuse containers must be no heavier than 50 lbs.
Holiday Schedule
When New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day occur on a weekday, collection for the remaining days of that week will be one day late. A good rule of thumb: When in doubt, put it out.
