A golf tournament is being organized by PanIIT 2008 to bring together golf enthusiasts from both the academic and industry communities. The tournament will be held at the Madras Gymkhana Club golf course, a 125 year old links type course ? one of the oldest in the world, outside of Scotland.

Date: 20th December 2008
Time: 6:00 am Shotgun tee-off.

This is a handicap tournament for 12 holes, so you will finish well in time to participate in the Conference agenda for the day. The tournament is being sponsored, and will offer a number of golfing gifts and refreshment at every turn.

The awards will include a rolling trophy, the Wooden Spoon, and prizes for closest-to-pin, longest-drive and more. And a special prize for any holes-in-one during the round!

There will be a Participation Fee of Rs.500, and only 50 entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

Format: 4 BALL TEXAS SCRAMBLE

Texas Scramble is similar to an advanced form of greensomes. Partnerships can be made up of two groups of two, three or four players. Each player in the group tees off on every hole and they choose the best drive. From that spot each person hits a second shot. The partnerships then decide on the best position from which to play their third shots and so on until one player holes out. With each golfer having a go at every shot the handicap allowance is far from generous - one eighth of the combined handicaps being the number of strokes received. Texas Scramble is played in a strokeplay format. It gives club golfers an opportunity to record the sort of scores they often see on television, but only dream about achieving themselves.

Programme:
5:15 am - Bus leaves Taramani House
5:25 am - Pickup Participants at Main Gate
6:00 am - 6:20 am - Registration and handing over of cards, Tea/ Coffee and biscuits will be served
6:30 am - 10:30 am - Shot gun tee off and event will be played. Scoring will be for 12 holes min.
11:00 am - Bus Leaves Golf Course back to Taramani House

** Sandwiches, Snacks, beverages and water will be available on the course.
